Anthony Zinni resigns as State Department Special Envoy for Qatar

Jan. 11, 2019: Anthony Zinni has resigned as a Special Envoy for Qatar at the U.S. Department of State. Zinni is a retired U.S. Marine Corps General, and he is one of several four-star Generals to recently resign from office. Zinni had originally agreed to work as a special adviser to the Secretary of State on Middle East issues at the request of former Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson--both of whom have since resigned from office. Zinni later coordinated with former National Security Adviser H. R. McMaster and White House Senior Adviser Jared Kushner, and he then later worked with current National Security Adviser John Bolton. Zinni also worked as former President George W. Bush's Special Envoy to the Middle East.
