John Fleming confirmed as Commerce Department Assistant Secretary for Economic Development

March 11, 2019: John Fleming was confirmed as the Assistant Secretary for Economic Development at the U.S. Department of Commerce by the U.S. Senate on Thursday, March 7, 2019. Fleming, of Louisiana, is a physician, businessman, military veteran and a four-term Member of Congress. Fleming most recently worked at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services since March, 2017. Fleming opened his family medicine practice in Minden, La., in 1982, after working for six years as a medical officer at the U.S. Navy. Additionally, he started several non-medical companies which are still in operation today, with more than six-hundred employees. Fleming received his B.S. and M.D. at the University of Mississippi.
