Matthew Albence appointed as Acting Director, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Bureau

April 12, 2019: Matthew Albence was appointed as the Acting Director of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Bureau (ICE) at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) yesterday, Thursday, April 11, 2019. Albence was previously the acting Deputy Director of ICE. Albence started his career at the former Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) in the mid-1990s before he moved to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and then returned to ICE in a position overseeing operations and field training, among other programs. Albence has moved up the ranks at ICE since 2012, when he was appointed as a Deputy Assistant Director. The INS does not exist anymore, and ICE and TSA are divisions of DHS.
