Paul Smith hired as Police Chief, South Pymatuning Township, Pa.

May 13, 2019: Paul Smith was hired as the Police Chief in South Pymatuning Township, Pa., in Mercer County, on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, by the Township Supervisors. Smith, of Beaver Falls, was a Police Officer in Baden Borough for five years before he worked as a State Constable in Beaver Falls for fourteen years. His police career started as an Officer for the Baltimore Police Department in 1982. “I used to go [to the South Pymatuning area] on camping excursions when I was a child,” Smith said. “I think the area is beautiful, and when I found out a chief position was available, I decided to go for it.” South Pymatuning Township officials suspended their Police Department on Feb. 13, 2019, and turned over law enforcement duties to the Pennsylvania State Police. The Police Department is on schedule to be back up and running by officials’ June 1, 2019, goal.
