Steve Heminger retires as Executive Director, San Francisco Metropolitan Transportation Commission

March 11, 2019: Steve Heminger retired as the Executive Director of the San Francisco Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) on Friday, March 1, 2019. Heminger held the position since 2001. Heminger, who was 58 in July, 2018, joined the MTC staff in 1993 as the Manager of Legislation and Public Affairs. He was named as the MTC Deputy Executive Director in 1999. Heminger has also retired as the Executive Director of the Association of Bay Area Governments, a position he held since July, 2017. MTC is the transportation planning, funding and coordinating agency for the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area. ABAG is the regional planning agency for the Bay Area's nine counties and 101 cities and town, and is recognized as the first council of governments in California.
